Why manage the traffic?
Our Town and Highway planners are faced more than ever before with the ever increasing volume of traffic on the roads. They are constantly striving to improve vehicular traffic flow, improve predictability on journey times and eliminate bottlenecks whilst at the same time trying to improve access for maintenance and routing for emergency services. All of this, whatever the sheer volume of traffic may be.
They have long come to recognise that, except in the case of physical bottlenecks that demand road widening or re-routing; just adding extra lanes to highways and ring roads or road widening in town centre’s is not the answer. They have turned their attentions to solving this issue using computer controlled traffic management systems. Imagine what our Highways and other roads would be like if there were no traffic lights, overhead lane controls, drive on the left or drive on the right protocols, etc. Roads would be of an incredible size that it would come to a point where in some geographies, faced with either social or economic pressures, consideration would have to be given to introducing some kind of traffic management system or rules.
As happened a few years back when telephone call centres started to spring up everywhere, companies recognized that the key to success was not necessarily hiring legions of operators but installing call management systems that, correctly installed improved customer satisfaction and efficiency whilst negating the need for huge numbers of operators and the associated operating costs.
As the internet comes of age, so too are Web Masters and managers recognizing that, the answer to managing the ever increasing volumes of web traffic is not simply additional blades, servers, load balancers or bandwidth etc. they are finding there is a finite limit. It is the management of the traffic through real time traffic management software and appliances that provides the answer. This is the reason why NetPrecept Software set out to design a traffic management system with features with functionality unprecedented to date to apply to this problem.
By implementing NetPrecept Software’s iPEP Technology (internet policy enforcement point) companies can literally slash their energy costs (significant in industry today) and maintain growing traffic levels with smaller infrastructure requirements, hence greatly reducing overall operating costs.
