Iain Fraser (Founder and CEO)

Iain has worked in the I.T. Industry for over 25 years. In 1982, he jointly founded a small I.T. Company manufacturing Desktop computer terminals and graphics products. In mid 1985 he became chairman and CEO. He disposed of the company in late 85 via a trade sale to a competitor. After a few years working in various sales management roles for a DEC Distributor he joined Sun Microsystems in January 1988. He was a major contributor in the development of the UK’s Channel strategy and was responsible for the signing and development of Sun’s 2 largest European partners, Morse Computers and Computacenter. He also worked on a personal basis with the founder and CEO of Micromuse to navigate the company to it’s successful IPO in 1997, one of the most successful IPO’s ever on NASDAQ. The Company subsequently grew to a peak market capitalisation of $3 Billion.

Over the 14 years he worked at Sun he was recognised as one of the most successful managers in EMEA. In addition to his management roles he worked on several strategic planning initiatives including Pan European channel strategies and Pan-EMEA business practices and compliance.

Iain completed an M.B.A. in 1992 and a course in European Law at the Cranfield Institute.

When not at work he enjoys playing the guitar and piano and the great outdoors with flying, sailing, scuba diving and skiing coming top of the list.

Ken Smith (Chief Financial Officer)

Ken is a graduate Chartered Accountant with nineteen years experience of the IT industry and the UK Financial Markets. Qualifying with Deloittes, Glasgow, he spent four years with their Nairobi practice before returning to the UK in 1986 when he joined Alphameric plc, a listed IT group, becoming Group Finance Director in 1990.

Since 1996 he has been Finance Director of a number of rapidly-growing SME’s in the IT sector, and has raised significant amounts of development capital for a variety of businesses. He has extensive knowledge and experience of corporate law, IPOs, M&A and business strategy.

Ken tries to find time in between his busy schedule to keep up his flying hobby. He is also a very competent tennis player and takes an active interest in his local club.

Dave Fretwell (Engineering & Software Development)

Dave has worked in the software development industry for just over 24 years with more than 8 of those years spent working for CGEY where he managed several high profile projects from design to implementation for companies such as Nat West Bank and Imperial Tobacco. He also designed and managed their subsequent support organisation.

Since 1996 he has specialised in the delivery of monitoring and automation systems and co-founded a software development company that provides OEM solutions for industry leaders including, BMC Software, I/O Concepts, Micromuse and IBM Tivoli.

Dave formed the development team at NetPrecept software and has since been responsible for navigating the development of the iPEP® product suite.

When he manages to get a moment he turns to sport to relax, especially fly fishing and go-karting. Nothing binary!

Helen Fairclough (Operations and Administration)

Helen has worked in the IT product support and delivery arena for more than 15 years. In 1990 she joined CGEY as a Business Operations Manager before joining Micromuse Inc in 1994 where she was Senior Vice President of Operations, prior to the company’s floatation on NASDAQ. Under her leadership the Micromuse Technical Support Operation expanded globally providing 24/7 services out of London, New York and San Francisco, providing a highly successful service to customers and the partner base via interactive solutions, telephone and on-site support. The role also included responsibility for product testing and quality standards. She has also been engaged in several consultancy assignments for successful start up organisations.

Helen holds a B.Sc. in Resource Science.

Helen enjoys spending her spare time sailing, swimming and researching interesting recipes to try out on her friends.
